My Take on Neethane En Ponvasantham

Well, it has been more than a day since I watched the movie and I am still not sure what to say when people ask me about it. Its definitely not the best, but is it bad? I don't know. The movie was just not what I expected.

The movie begins with a note : Some moments from the love story of Varun and Nthya. And that exactly describes the movie. It is in bits and pieces. Some of the bits are great while some just suck.

It is the every-day story of a girl and boy who love each other, but not enough to give up the egos for each other. At every point, it is their egos that clash and they separate. But surprisingly this time, the director has let the lovers have it their way and finished it with a 'and they happily fought ever after'.

The saving grace of the movie is its music. The film is a real treat to all Raja sir fans' out there. The way the music has been used in the narration of story is very beautiful. Without the music, the film would have been a total dud.

Another stand out feature of the movie I think is Santhanam. For the first time, the first song in the movie shows someone other than the lead actors. His one liners and 'chill out machi' provide a good diversion. The spoof of VTV is just hilarious. It seems Gautham Menon wanted to make the spoof of his movie himself before anyone else would get a chance.

If we ignore all these, the film looks very similar to Vinaithandi Varuvaya (to me, even the calligraphy of the titles looked the same!). It had the cliche 'Feet' scene, 'angry heroine's back' scene and the indecisive girl character. I guess, one can always expect such things out of Gautham Menon's movie.

Coming to the best thing about the movie, you will not remember a thing when you finish watching the movie. Yes, the movie requires your undivided attention. Otherwise you will not know what is happening and before you figure out, the leads would have moved on to another fight! I have decided I will never again venture to watch a movie before the reviews are out so that I will know what to expect.

To put it simply, Neethane En Ponvasantham did not live up to its expectation and the hype created before the release is the death of it.

Tom and Jerry Relationships

Well, I know the title can only  mean one thing. Cat and Mouse. One of my favorite cartoon shows ever. It is the only show where me and my brother who goes to sixth standard watch with equal enthusiasm. Cartoon network rerun the episodes n number of times and still I will watch it and laugh.
Okay,  now coming to the reason as to why this post has this title. Well, I have always thought Tom and Jerry share an amazing relationship. They prod each other and fight with each other like hell but when faced with a common threat, team up and do a great job. I had assumed this was an imaginary one.

In real life, one cannot argue\fight with a person all the time they are together but still manage to work together. There are emotions involved. After effects and thinking involved. I did not consider it a healthy relationship.
But my view has changed now. I can very well say Tom and Jerry is possible in real life. I am experiencing it. I argue with a person almost every time we talk. But still that person is the one I go to when I want to discuss things. Its because the arguments that is caused in the process actually enlightens me regarding the things I want to discuss and I understand things more that what I would have done if I had gone through the problem alone.
And now, I have realised it more than ever. Arguments are good and are mostly productive if we know when to stop arguing. Tom and Jerry relationships are fine until we know when to stop the fighting and start teaming up to face the threat.

My take on Thupakki

Its been long since I blogged and being sick and miserable in the beginning of the weekend is not just what I was pleased about. So I decided to brave my health and go to Thupakki, the recent release of Vijay.

Now, I am the kind of person who loves watching movies just for the pleasure of it. Logic takes second place in my list. But it doesn't mean I enjoy illogical movies. Yes, I can accept few slips in logic. And this is exactly why I loved Thupakki. Except for very few slips, the movie was completely engaging.

The pace of the movie was a kind of mixed bag. Few parts were really fast paced while some bore down on my patience with its slow pace. But overall, the story line was good an screenplay was great.

Vijay was a little different with his acting here. Come on, give him some credits. Yeah, he has had bad movies but an actor must be given some chance at redemption and Thupakki definitely counts as one of his best efforts at this.

So if anyone asks me if Thupakki is worth watching, I will definitely say 'Yes'.

And as my Facebook Status goes : 'Despite being bedridden and barely able to talk, I went to theatre to watch Thupakki and did not regret a moment of it!!! I'm not sure who deserves more praise, A R Murugadoss or Vijay...'

Dancing! I am brimming from the excitement of Dancing in a Flash Mob!!!  First time, when I was told there was going to be a Flash Mob in the office, I was a little bit apprehensive of joining in. But then, I remembered a line I read from a book "No change, No gain". So I decided to take a chance and joined in. Though I learnt classical dance in school days, I stopped all dancing related activities after school. So after four years, I was dancing and this experience definitely reminded me how much I loved to dance.

And what fun we had!!! I danced some steps I would never have if not for this flash mob. We had a very good dance master who handled the herculean task of making us all scarecrows dance. There were 20 odd people in the flash mob and we had all kind of weird movements and steps tested during the practice. We even tried to passionately recommended the famous bulb dance ragging step to be included. In the end, we did a variation of it. Our dance master did complete the herculean task. By the final rehearsal, everyone involved had found the dancer within them.

The Flash Mob in itself was a huge success. In the rush and excitement, all I remember is the dancing. All self consciousness lost in the crowd. It was one exhilarating experience!!!

So, here are three cheers to the Flash Mob! Hip, Hip, Hurray!!! \m/

Happy Teachers Day!!!

You will never know your true potential if not for your Teacher!
Facebook  has turned out to be a great source of inspiration these days. I found the above photo shared on one of my friend's timeline and something moved me to write this post. So here I am, yet again, hoping this time I would follow up regularly.

Teachers. Well, what can I say about them? They play the most instrumental role in everyone's life. I am sure all of us have that special teacher who inspired you to do things. Things you did not think you were capable of. Things you would not have attempted and succeeded if not for the trust the teacher put in. In my school days, I used to work hard just for the smile the teacher would bestow on me when she gave me the paper.

Well, then college happened. Though I had more teachers in four years than I had in entire twelve years of school life, my attitude did not remain the same. I guess, it happens almost with everyone. The teachers in school and college are never seen with the same eyes. May be, I grew up and changed or may be, the teaching at school and college level was quite different. But whatever may the reason be, the reverence I had for teachers a.k.a professors was inversely proportional to the the time I spent in college. But even here, I found one beacon. The sole teacher for whom I have utmost reverence. He was my first project guide, my mentor and a well wisher throughout college. I have not heeded to his advise many a time and learnt the hard way that he was always right. Yet, he was always patient and guided me through my college days.

To all the teachers who are responsible for where I am today and what I will become tomorrow, Happy Teacher's Day!!! And a very big thank you :)

P.S.: I know everyone has their own special teacher. Feel free to share about them in your comments below :)

A new beginning :)

I have finally entered the next phase of life. I am working. If there is one thing I realized about myself during the three months I stayed jobless at home, it is that I am a compulsive workaholic. I can never be without doing anything. I need something to occupy my time. Be it a simple book or a puzzle to solve or a chumki work on my old top, I was around my house, always searching for things to do. When I complained about it, all I would hear is "You can be like this only now, so enjoy it" and there was nothing I hated more than hearing the reply. So right now, in my new job, I can say I am happy to have something to work on.
